Get to know Adaobi

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a psychiatric provider because I have always been passionate about supporting individuals through emotional and mental health challenges. My experiences in healthcare and personal life showed me how deeply mental health affects well-being, relationships, and daily functioning. I wanted to expand my ability to provide comprehensive care by combining empathy, therapeutic support, and medication management. My goal is to help individuals feel understood, empowered, and supported as they work toward healing and a more balanced, fulfilling life.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with individuals who are ready to explore their experiences, gain insight, and make meaningful changes in their lives. I support clients facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, and other mental health challenges. Many clients seek better emotional balance, improved coping skills, and a deeper understanding of themselves. I also enjoy working with those who are motivated to grow, build resilience, and take active steps toward mental wellness.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

One thing I wish all clients understood is that healing is rarely linear; it demands time, perseverance, and selfkindness. Fluctuations are inherent to the journey, and facing setbacks is completely normal. You don’t need absolute clarity to begin. Taking the initial step is significant in itself. With consistency and support, meaningful growth and lasting change are absolutely possible.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Clients can expect a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where they feel safe to share at their own pace. During the first session, I will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your concerns, history, and goals. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss what matters most to you. Early in therapy, we will work together to build trust, identify patterns, and create a personalized treatment plan, which may include therapy and, if appropriate, medication management. My goal is for you to feel heard, supported, and equipped with practical tools as you begin your journey toward healing and growth.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is shaped by both my professional experience and personal understanding of how life challenges, stress, and loss can impact mental and emotional well-being. These experiences have deepened my empathy and strengthened my commitment to meeting clients with compassion, respect, and without judgment. I value treating the whole person, recognizing the connection between mental, emotional, and life circumstances. I am also guided by a strong belief in empowerment, helping clients build resilience, develop life skills, and take an active role in their healing journey.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy by taking time to understand each client’s unique experiences, goals, and personal strengths. I use a collaborative approach to create a treatment plan that may include evidence-based strategies and, when appropriate, medication management. I continuously adjust the plan based on progress and feedback to ensure care remains effective and meaningful.
