My name is Qwana Powell and as your mental health provider with Thriveworks, my goal is to provide competent and compassionate services tailored to fit each client’s individual needs. I started in behavioral as an RN in 2013, where most of my clients were centered in the underserved communities of Memphis, Tn. Quality healthcare should not be based entirely on ability to pay, that is why I chose the community I’ve been a part of for over ten years. Adults and children who are diagnosed with depression, anxiety, mood and behavioral disorders can expect unbiased treatment with a goal of total remission of symptoms.

I use a wide range of modalities to address mental health concerns because medication is only one aspect of treatment. Talk therapy, counseling, lifestyle changes, substance use support and even holistic approaches are all acceptable to manage symptoms.

If you are looking for a fresh start approach to managing your mental health symptoms, schedule your appointment today with a provider that truly cares…

"As a black woman, I understand that cultural competence and representation matters in healthcare, especially mental health."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I developed a passion for behavioral health nursing while working in underserved communities.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients with symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood, schizophrenia, insomnia and selfesteem issues.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

For many years mental health treatment has had a negative connotation associated to it. Seeking treatment only means you are ready for a lifestyle change. Healing and remission is determined by your commitment to these changes and finding the right provider.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In the first session of treatment and early stages of therapy, you can expect open and honest dialect about your past experiences and what led you to treatment today.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

Listening to a client’s past history and experiences will allow for a more tailored fit to their needs assessment.
