Why did you decide to become a psychiatric provider?
I had worked in the mental health field for years as a nurse. I wanted to further my career because I felt I had the heart, patience and drive to help those that can't always help themselves. I also wanted to help erase the stigma of mental health. Everyone has challenges and sometimes they just need one person to listen and say, "Hey, we are gonna work on this together. You are not alone in this." I wanted to be that person and so far, it has been the most rewarding role in my life.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Those who are serious about improving their life. Clients who put the work in, take direction, ask questions and are compliant with their treatment plan.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with clients who are eager to improve their life. This is especially the case for those who have had treatment in the past but didn't have the success they had hoped for. These clients are still hurting and I can't wait to work with them and be a part of their journey towards wellness.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
It can get better. It doesn't feel like it sometimes but it can. I often tell my clients that they can borrow some of my sunshine until they find their own. When they do find their own, its an amazing and beautiful sight to witness.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks has the model of care that I personally believe in. They are making mental health services available to clients that might not otherwise be able to see someone for their needs. Their relaxed, friendly and teamwork approach is refreshing to be a part of.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the strength of my clients. So many have suffered trauma yet they have broken that cycle and worked hard to be a part of a regular family/society. It isn't always easy. I am inspired by the love and care that humans do have for one another despite what we may see on TV. I am inspired by those that choose joy, love and peace and seek to make it a part of their lives.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect that I am a very down to earth person and easy to talk to. I will ask questions but I also want you to ask questions as well. It is my job to help fill in the gaps with education when it comes to medications and treatment plans. I want to know what I can do to help you get to where you want to be.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I'm approachable and open-minded. I would like to hear you out. I want to know what or when or how this issue started. I am very committed and protective of my clients. I like to be available for them and am prompt when returning messages and/or calls.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Well let's see, I have a little zoo around here. My fiance and I have chickens, dogs, cats, a snake, turtle and a few wild critters we feed. I usually spend my time with them, walking in the woods exploring. We are also very much nerds and enjoy going to comic conventions, doing cosplay, playing tabletop games and watching movies!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My complete and unconditional love for my animals. This also extends to my love for mental health. I pride myself in being an advocate for those that can't speak for themselves and need someone to be there, love them and support them.
