Why did you decide to become a psychiatric provider?
My mom struggled with mental health issues while growing up and into adulthood and did not receive adequate care and was embarrassed by the stigma. I want to provide care without the stigma and help people feel better about themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I count it a privilege and am humbled that I am able to work in the psychiatric field. This has been my goal and dream since high school.
What inspires you?
Knowing that I am able to make a difference in peoples' lives.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The first session will always be the longest, as I gather information and take time to get to know you and develop a course of treatment specifically for you to meet your mental health goals.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
This is their treatment, not mine and we need to work together as a team to reaching your desired goals.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy reading, cooking and walking with my two dogs and husband. I love to travel and experience new locations.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am passionate and compassionate and take nothing for granted.
Does Shiela prescribe medications effective for ADHD? (Non-stimulant & stimulant medications?)
Yes! Shiela is a part of the Thriveworks ADHD Clinic and can prescribe medications that are effective in treating ADHD.
