Get to know Sandra

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner while working in a small Psychiatric Hospital, trying to figure out which specialty to choose as an advanced nurse. I became passionate about directly helping individuals with mental health conditions through their journey or steps of recovery to being mentally stable and contributing members of society, providing them with comprehensive care, and making a significant impact on their lives. As I advanced in my career, seeing my clients succeed became an obsession, from diagnosing, treating, and managing various psychiatric disorders to utilizing my nursing skills and building strong therapeutic relationships with patients/families.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Clients who enjoy humor and the freedom of expression.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

You can live well with a mental health condition, as long as you are open to seeking help from the right source on time

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

"I'm excited about the opportunity to utilize my skill as a PMHNP-BC within this role at Thriveworks as it aligns perfectly with the company's goals and mission."

What inspires you?

I'm inspired when I see my clients discover their strengths

What types of clients do you work with best?

My focus is on the treatment of mood disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, Neurodevelopmental disorders (ADD, DHD, ASD), Anxiety disorders, and chronic mental illness through psychiatric assessment, medication management, and brief psychotherapeutic intervention for childhood (early years) through adolescence, adulthood, and into older ages (Across the Lifespan).

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect a comprehensive conversation, focusing on their current concerns, past experiences, family history, and overall functioning, with the primary goal of understanding why they are seeking evaluation and establishing a diagnosis if necessary

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want my client to understand their plan of care and gain insight into their mental health

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

My professional background, areas of expertise, therapeutic approach, and treatment

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I'm a married mother of 3 children. I cherish my family life outside work. I love cooking, gardening, traveling, and socializing with friends/family.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Being kind and caring
