Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner while working in a small Psychiatric Hospital, trying to figure out which specialty to choose as an advanced nurse. I became passionate about directly helping individuals with mental health conditions through their journey or steps of recovery to being mentally stable and contributing members of society, providing them with comprehensive care, and making a significant impact on their lives. As I advanced in my career, seeing my clients succeed became an obsession, from diagnosing, treating, and managing various psychiatric disorders to utilizing my nursing skills and building strong therapeutic relationships with patients/families.
