About Russell
Russell Bohner is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who has worked with psychiatric patients for over 21 years. Through his education and previous practice experience, Russell has accumulated a wide range of experiences working with people from adolescents to the elderly.
Russell started his career in psychiatry as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and worked his way to a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at Wilkes University before obtaining his Nurse Practitioner (NP) license. Russell believes that healing, both physical and emotional, must involve a complete and holistic approach to assessing one's problems, finding solutions, and ultimately providing healing to the mind, body, and soul. This is accomplished through the development of a nurturing, trusting, and nonjudgmental relationship with his patients. Medication management and supportive counseling are the primary modalities utilized.
Russell seeks to establish a positive and productive therapeutic relationship with you to provide wholeness and psychiatric wellness that will ultimately allow you to work toward your life's goals with confidence, dignity, and respect.

"As an experienced clinician that has successfully worked with all age groups, I look forward to helping you reach your therapeutic and psychiatric wellness goals, regardless of your race, gender identification, age, or past history."

I enjoy helping people meet their mental health goals.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That mental health is as important as physical health and that it requires maintenance, just like physical health.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks provides me the opportunity to work with a variety of patients, including different ages, genders, and diagnoses.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by people that reach their goals, despite the seemingly impossible adversities placed upon them.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A typical first session involves getting to know my patient and developing a therapeutic relationship that we will build on in future sessions. We will talk about each others expectations for therapy and set some goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Begin to develop a therapeutic relationship.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I am an avid wood worker during the winter months and also enjoy flower gardening in the summer months. I love animals. I raised dachshunds (hotdogs) for many years and recently started breeding guinea pigs and hamsters.
