Why did you decide to become a psychiatric provider?
During my time in nursing school, studying and working in a variety of specialties, I always found myself coming back to mental health. Even my patient's with physical diagnoses as a primary concern had elements of mental health that were often contributing. I truly believe that whole health starts with mental health and have always found myself putting that at the forefront.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am always happy to take the reigns if requested. However, I am most excited to work with clients who are active participants in their care, as a cornerstone of my approach is ensuring that the patient is an equal decision-maker in the treatment process.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Medication management has numerous benefits. However, it is not always an "end all, be all" solution. Treatment goals are often more fully achieved when the approach considers behavioral changes, environmental changes, and the like, in addition to medication/chemical changes. I believe in a collaborative and comprehensive approach to mental health care that considers multiple contributing factors including biological, developmental, environmental, and psychological perspectives - and encourage clients to examine these factors in their own life.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
First and foremost, the positive feedback from all Thriveworks employees has been overwhelming. They create a culture of support and growth that is helpful for providers, but even more helpful for their patient population. Thriveworks offers the opportunity to work with patients who are active participants in their own care. Furthermore, they allow the provider-patient relationship to conducted under more flexible terms - in addition to more frequent and efficient terms.
What inspires you?
Playing a role, no matter how big are small, in someone's growth, goal achievement, or improvement of any kind has always inspired my path in this career.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Our first session will usually consist of getting background information and history on the patient. This includes background on the primary symptom sets (i.e. when they started, frequency, triggers, etc.). However, this background assessment also includes supporting information (i.e. family history, environmental factors, etc.). Sometimes treatment options are discussed and initiated during this appointment. However, most often those approaches are discussed in the second and following sessions as background information often takes up most, if not all, of the first session.
