About Alison
I am an ANCC board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 16 years of nursing experience. I earned my nursing degree and Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Delaware. Before becoming a psychiatric provider, I worked five years as an oncology nurse and 11 years in labor and delivery—experiences that taught me how physical health, well-being, and relationships are interconnected. I work with clients across the lifespan and treat anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic disorder, substance use disorders, and co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.
My clients seek medication management, therapeutic support, and practical strategies to feel better and function more fully in their lives. I work collaboratively to understand each person's unique needs, identify meaningful goals, and develop a treatment plan that supports their path toward lasting mental wellness.
My approach is compassionate and collaborative. I use evidence-based medication management and practical strategies tailored to your needs. I provide a nonjudgmental environment. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, women's health, and substance use. Together, we identify patterns, build strengths, and develop strategies for well-being.

"As a long-time women's health nurse and a mother of three, I understand the challenges of balancing personal identity, relationships, caregiving, and everyday responsibilities while also making space for your own mental health and wellbeing."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a psychiatric provider after working as a nurse and seeing how much mental health impacts overall health and wellbeing. Working as a nurse, I realized how many patients needed someone who would listen, understand the whole person, and help them feel less alone during vulnerable periods of their lives. I wanted to build on my nursing experience while developing the skills to form long-term therapeutic relationships and provide more comprehensive psychiatric care. This career allows me to combine the parts of nursing that have always meant the most to me—listening, educating, advocating, and helping people feel understood—with the ability to make a lasting difference in their lives.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with adolescents and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood concerns, stress, or significant life transitions. With my background in women’s health nursing, I especially enjoy supporting women through the emotional and mental health challenges that can arise during different stages of life. I value working with clients who want to better understand themselves and take an active role in their care. My approach is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental, and I strive to create a space where each person feels heard, respected, and comfortable being themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish every client knew that meaningful change is possible, even when it feels impossible. With time, support, and small steps forward, you can start feeling better and enjoying life more.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
During our first session, I’ll take the time to get to know you, understand what brings you to treatment, and learn how your symptoms are affecting your daily life. We’ll review your mental and physical health history, current medications, relationships, stressors, strengths, and goals. You’ll also have plenty of time to ask questions and share any concerns. In the early stages of treatment, we’ll work together to develop a plan that may include medication, therapy, coping strategies, or a combination of approaches. We’ll regularly check in on your progress, discuss what is or isn’t working, and make adjustments as needed so your care continues to fit your needs.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My years as a nurse nurse allowed me to care for people during some of the most vulnerable and lifechanging moments of their lives. Those experiences taught me the importance of listening without judgment, treating each person with compassion, and looking beyond symptoms to understand the whole person. As a woman and mother, I also understand how relationships, caregiving, work, and everyday responsibilities can affect mental health. These experiences shape my commitment to providing care that is honest, respectful, practical, and centered on what matters most to each client.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I don’t believe in a one-sizefits-all approach. I take time to understand each client’s concerns, goals, experiences, and preferences, then work with them to create a treatment plan that feels realistic and manageable. As we go, we’ll talk openly about what is helping, what isn’t, and make changes when needed.
