About Provider

About Maame

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and experienced Registered Nurse with over a decade of experience in behavioral and mental health care. I am passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based treatment to adults living with mental health conditions. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from D'Youville University. My clinical background spans inpatient psychiatric hospitals, forensic mental health settings, and state-operated behavioral health facilities across North Carolina, Virginia, and Connecticut.

I use a collaborative, evidence-based approach that combines medication management, education, and supportive therapy. I specialize in treating depression, mood disorders, schizophrenia, and insomnia. Clients can expect compassionate care, open communication, and a personalized treatment plan focused on stability, symptom relief, and long-term wellness.

Taking the first step toward mental health treatment can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to face life's challenges alone. I am committed to providing a supportive, compassionate environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered. If you're ready to begin your journey toward healing, growth, and improved well-being, I look forward to working with you.

Get to know Maame

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner because I am passionate about helping individuals improve their mental health and overall quality of life. Throughout my healthcare, I witnessed the significant impact that mental health conditions can have on individuals, families, and communities, as well as the positive changes that can occur when people receive compassionate, effective care.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish all clients knew that healing is not a linear process. There will be periods of progress, setbacks, growth, and challenges, and all of these experiences are a normal part of journey. Mental health treatment is not about "fixing" who you are, it's about helping clients to better understand themselves, build on strengths, and develop tools to navigate life's difficulties more effectively.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

During our first session, my primary goal is to get to know my patients and understand what brings them to treatment. Discussing current concerns, symptoms, personal history, medical background, previous mental health treatment, and goals the patient may have. In early stages of treatment, we will work together to establish goals, identify strengths, and challenges, and discuss treatment options.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

Every person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, compassion, and respect, regardless of their background, diagnosis, or life circumstance.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I recognize that each client has unique experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals. I tailor treatment by taking the time to understand the whole person, not just their symptoms. Together, we develop an individualized plan that may include medication management, education, supportive therapy, and practical coping strategies. I regularly assess progress and adjust treatment as needed to ensure care remains aligned with each client's needs, preferences, and personal goals.
