Get to know Dr Tammy
Why did you decide to become a psychiatric provider?
I became a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner because I was treating a lot of mental illness in the patients I was treating as an Adult/ Geriatric nurse practitioner. So, I went back to school to also be a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner across the life span.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work with clients who are open and honest. It's difficult for me to help you if you are not open and honest.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with anyone who is willing to work hard to improve themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Mental health illness hits very close to home for me and I try my best to provide the care that I want my family to receive.
What inspires you?
My clients inspire me all the time! They work hard to get better and even through times of symptom relapse, attending appointments, taking medications, engaging in therapy shows commitment. I'm in awe of the resilience I witness. My children inspire me. They make me want to be the person they see me as.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I will ask a lot of questions to get to know you and understand you better. However, you are able to say that you'd prefer not to answer something and we can come back to it at a later date. The more I know about you, the more information I have to help you and facilitate your treatment.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am open and honest. I believe that I am here to help you but I cannot do the work for you. I believe your goals of care should be designed by both, you and the provider, not just me because this is not about me at all. The focus is on you.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like to spend time with my family and friends. We enjoy camping and spending time with our 3 dogs. I am also an avid reader so you will often find me curled up with a book.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My word. I give you my word that I will do the best I can to help everyone who seeks treatment.
