Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a psychiatric provider because, throughout my nursing career, I saw how deeply mental health affects every aspect of a person’s life and how meaningful it can be to have a provider who truly listens. Since beginning my career as an LPN in 2014, caring for individuals with mental health needs has strengthened my passion for helping people feel heard, understood, and empowered. Becoming a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner allowed me to expand that passion by combining compassionate relationships, psychotherapy, evidence-based treatment, and medication management to help individuals across the lifespan achieve meaningful and lasting improvements in their mental health.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients who are ready to take an active role in improving their mental health, even if they are unsure where to begin. I enjoy working with children ages six and older, adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, autism, dementia, and other mental health concerns. My approach is especially well suited for individuals who value a provider who is warm and affirming but also willing to challenge them, encourage personal growth, and explore creative solutions. I believe treatment works best as a partnership, and I enjoy helping clients better understand themselves, develop practical coping skills, and make meaningful changes that allow them to become the best version of themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish every client knew that healing is not a straight line, and progress does not require perfection. Mental health treatment is a partnership that takes time, honesty, patience, and a willingness to grow. Some of the most meaningful changes begin with small steps, and my goal is to create a space where you feel safe enough to be yourself, challenged enough to grow, and empowered enough to recognize the strength you already possess.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In your first session with me, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free conversation focused on understanding you as a whole person—not just your symptoms or diagnosis. We will discuss your current concerns, mental health and medical history, medications, life experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals for treatment. Together, we will develop an individualized treatment plan that may include medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle strategies, and other evidencebased interventions. During the early stages of treatment, we will continue building trust, evaluating your progress, adjusting the plan when needed, and identifying practical strategies that support meaningful change. My goal is for you to feel heard, involved in your care, and empowered to become the best version of yourself.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My practice is shaped by more than a decade of caring for individuals with mental health needs across different stages of life and levels of care. Those experiences have reinforced my values of compassion, respect, authenticity, lifelong learning, and treating each person as an individual rather than a diagnosis. I believe people deserve to feel heard and understood while also being appropriately challenged and empowered to grow. I bring warmth, openness, and curiosity into each interaction, while using evidence-based care and continuing education to guide treatment. Most importantly, I believe in meeting people where they are and working collaboratively to create realistic solutions that support lasting change and a better quality of life.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy by recognizing that no two people experience mental health challenges in the same way. I take time to understand each client’s symptoms, experiences, strengths, culture, relationships, lifestyle, preferences, and personal goals before developing an individualized treatment approach. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all model, I incorporate evidence-based therapeutic techniques, practical coping strategies, and medication management when appropriate. As treatment progresses, we continually evaluate what is working and make adjustments together. My approach is collaborative, flexible, affirming, and solution-focused, with the goal of helping each client develop strategies that feel realistic, meaningful, and sustainable in their everyday life.
