About Provider

About Katalin

I am a Board-Certified Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) from Saginaw Valley State University and a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-PC) from the University of Michigan, with over 15 years of nursing experience in the Emergency Department and as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient psychiatric clinic. I believe in individualized, person-centered, holistic care, and I specialize in diagnosing and treating people across the lifespan with depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, trauma, adjustment issues, and co-occurring disorders.

I begin by building a trusting relationship where clients feel comfortable. I help clients become active in their healing. I focus on educating clients about their condition and its impact on relationships and life. I educate clients about prescribed medications—how to take them and potential side effects—so adherence increases and progress isn't delayed.

I create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable sharing your needs. As someone whose parents were born and raised in a different country, I understand how culture can shape individual experiences and how much of an impact that can have on relationships. I take a holistic approach, treating the whole person and not just the symptoms.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I have worked in healthcare for a long time before deciding to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I like being able to help and support people on their healing journey instead of only treating symptoms. I enjoy building long-term relationships and helping people through very challenging times in their lives.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

The process of therapy is highly individual as there are many different types of therapeutic techniques. However no matter which path a person takes to mental health the healing process involves active participation and actively working towards healing.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In the early stages of healing a person should expect a very thorough assessment which includes a person's past mental health history, medical history, and social and environmental factors. A treatment plan is developed which often includes medication with education, proposed lifestyle changes, and possibly therapy. The process is collaborative and includes patient input and consent.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

Therapy is tailored based on a wholistic assessment that extends beyond symptom management. It takes into account a person's current mental health challenges, life stressors, and their goals.
