About Gabrielle
Hello, my name is Gabrielle Newton, MSN, PMHNP-BC. Born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, I've always appreciated volunteering, animal activism, and nature. My passion for mental health began early as I watched a loved one struggle with Alzheimer's disease, inspiring me to pursue this career. I earned my B.S. in Nursing in 2013 and became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2021 at Northwestern State University. I treat children, adolescents, and adults for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, insomnia, and mood-related disorders, with specialized experience in postpartum depression, anxiety, and psychosis.
I take a comprehensive approach: medication management, therapy, lifestyle interventions, and evaluation of underlying medical conditions. I discuss evidence-based natural options when appropriate, emphasize lab monitoring and physical health, and encourage medication with therapy. Journaling and self-help resources can help when therapy isn't available.
Life can be challenging, and seeking help is often the hardest step. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, or postpartum concerns, you don't have to face it alone. I believe every person's story matters, and I'm committed to meeting you where you are without judgment. You don't need to have it all figured out. Make peace of mind your priority.

"Drawing from both professional training and personal experiences with family challenges and loss, I am dedicated to creating a safe space where clients feel heard, seen and supported. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a psychiatric provider because I always had a desire to positively impact the lives of others. I have witnessed how unresolved mental health concerns can negatively impact the lives of others including loved ones. My goal is to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health care and to provide a safe space for anyone that want to improve their quality of life.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients who are ready to make positive changes in their life in combination with medication management in order to maintain progress over time.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish that all clients knew that healing is journey that usually start with a problem and ends in transformation. The healing journey includes challenges, grief and setbacks which does not take away from the progress already made. Healing cannot truly begin without self-awareness which includes identifying triggers and unhealthy emotional patterns.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
The first session with a new provider can be anxiety provoking for many people; therefore, my approach is relaxed and nonformal. The first session with me is a conversation based on your specific goals and concerns. The early stages of treatment are focused on building trust, answering your questions and creating a plan that support your healing journey.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
One of the core values that inform my practice is compassion. I always seek to understand my client's life experiences without judgement.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to meet the unique needs of client's by conducting a thorough assessment and identifying each client's personal goals.
