About Nubia
I am Nubia A. McVey, a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with experience in medical and psychiatric care. My approach is centered on treating the whole person, recognizing the connection between physical and mental health. I work with adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, ADHD, and substance use disorders. I believe that helping one person improve their mental health can positively impact their family and future generations, making every opportunity to support healing both a privilege and a purpose.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. By combining evidence-based psychiatric care, medication management, education, and supportive counseling, I help clients develop practical strategies for lasting improvement. Clients can expect a nonjudgmental environment where they feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their care.
Seeking help is a sign of strength, and you do not have to navigate life's challenges alone. I'm committed to providing a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered. My goal is to help you find hope, healing, and the tools to create meaningful and lasting change. I'd be honored to be part of your journey.

"I am passionate about helping people find hope, healing, and resilience because I believe that when one person transforms their life, the positive impact can extend to their loved ones and future generations."

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing I wish all clients knew is that healing is not about being perfect or never struggling again—it is about making progress, building resilience, and learning how to navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and self-compassion. Growth often happens in small steps, and setbacks do not mean failure; they are a normal part of the healing process. Seeking help is a sign of strength, and meaningful change is possible when you give yourself the opportunity, support, and grace to grow.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In our first session, my primary goal is to get to know you and understand what brings you to treatment. We will discuss your current concerns, symptoms, personal history, strengths, and goals so that I can develop a comprehensive understanding of your unique situation. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share your expectations, and begin building a comfortable and trusting therapeutic relationship. During the early stages of treatment, we will work together to identify priorities, establish realistic goals, and create a personalized treatment plan that supports your emotional and mental well-being. Depending on your needs, this may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, education about your condition, and supportive therapeutic interventions. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and judgment-free, and I encourage clients to be active participants in their care. Clients can expect to leave sessions feeling heard, respected, and supported, with a clearer understanding of their challenges and practical steps toward healing and growth. While meaningful change takes time, my goal is to help you build hope, confidence, and momentum from the very beginning of our work together.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I believe that effective treatment begins with understanding each person's unique experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals. No two individuals are alike, so I take the time to develop a personalized treatment plan that reflects your specific needs, preferences, and circumstances. I consider factors such as your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, relationships, cultural background, and personal values when creating a plan of care. My approach is collaborative and flexible, allowing us to adjust treatment as your needs evolve over time. Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, or life transitions, I use evidence-based practices, medication management when appropriate, and supportive therapeutic techniques tailored to your goals. Throughout the process, I encourage open communication and active participation so that you feel empowered, supported, and fully involved in your treatment journey. My goal is to provide care that not only addresses symptoms but also helps you build resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and achieve meaningful, lasting improvements in your overall quality of life.
