About Tamara
I am Tamara Dewar, a doctorally prepared Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I began with a bachelor's degree in psychology, then worked as a Behavioral Health Therapist, Mental Health Case Manager, and Employment Specialist with vulnerable populations before becoming a Registered Nurse—where I observed a void in acknowledging the mind-body connection. I work with clients across the lifespan, addressing ADHD, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, PTSD, and psychosis. I evaluate clients, diagnose, prescribe medication and therapeutic regimens, and advocate for services that support well-being.
I strive to create a warm, judgment-free space where clients feel truly heard. My approach is collaborative and person-centered, ensuring you remain the expert of your experience. I believe in integrating natural strategies alongside traditional medicinal interventions. Through open dialogue, we'll define your goals and build a roadmap to reach them.
Healing can feel challenging, but you don't need to carry that weight alone. Your story matters, and the challenges you face today don't define what you may achieve tomorrow. I'm here to offer a space where you feel heard, understood, and truly supported. When you're ready, reach out to schedule an appointment—you deserve a life that feels whole.

"I am an open-minded, Caribbean - American woman who blends clinical expertise with a warm, accessible approach. I believe in meeting clients where they are in their mental health journey, and that true healing requires a harmonious balance between mind, spirit and body."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have always had a fascination with the mind and how impactful it can be on one’s physical well-being. When deciding on a professional career, mental health continued to fascinate me. Though my career path led me to focus on physical health, the importance of appropriate mental health became even more evident. This resulted in me becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, where I would be able to more positively impact client mental health outcomes.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Any types- any age, race, gender, nationality.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Despite significant progress, a stigma still lingers around mental health care. Choosing to seek support is a profound act of courage, never a cause of shame. Prioritizing our mental well-being is just as vital—if not more so—than maintaining our physical health. Healing is a journey that takes time, but investing in yourself is always worth the effort to achieve true, lasting wellness.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Initial sessions focus on building a collaborative relationship and reviewing relevant clinical history. Through open dialogue, we will identify primary concerns and determine the most effective interventions. We will then establish a personalized treatment plan and schedule regular follow-ups to monitor progress and ensure optimal outcomes.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
To effectively address clients therapeutic needs, I prioritize active listening and a nonjudgmental stance. By utilizing open-ended dialogue, I meet individuals exactly where they are in their clinical journey, identifying and implementing supportive interventions tailored to their unique pace and goals.
