About Ashleigh
I am Ashleigh Russell-Smith, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with more than four years of experience providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to adolescents and adults. Since beginning my practice as a PMHNP in March 2022, I have been dedicated to helping patients achieve emotional wellness through individualized treatment plans that combine thoughtful medication management with supportive, patient-centered care.
Prior to specializing in psychiatry, I gained valuable nursing experience in both intensive care and urgent care settings. This diverse clinical background has strengthened my ability to assess complex medical and psychiatric conditions while providing safe, comprehensive care.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in my garden, discovering new coffee shops and specialty coffees, and relaxing with jazz music. I believe that self-care, meaningful connections, and balance are essential components of overall mental wellness and strive to bring those values into every patient interaction.

"True kindness is not what drives relationships of mere utility, but it is at the core of relationships of goodness."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
To commitment to accessibility and the rewarding nature of facilitating positive, long-term change.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Clients with treatmentresistant depression, adolescents navigating trauma, or geriatrics managing early-stage dementia.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Healing doesn't always feel like happiness right away. Many clients expect therapy to immediately make them feel better, when in reality, the process often requires sitting with deep discomfort, grieving, and setting difficult boundaries.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In early stages, we will build trust, outline your specific goals, and begin exploring root causes, moving into targeted strategies in subsequent meetings.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
Thorough assessments, active adaptation to the client's preferred learning and processing styles, and the integration of evidence-based techniques.
