Get to know Wendy

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a psychiatric provider to offer compassionate, evidence‑based, and patient‑centered care to individuals facing mental health challenges, advocating for their well‑being and recovery, while also helping bridge the gap in safe, equitable, and culturally sensitive care—especially within the Hispanic/Latino community, where speaking Spanish allows me to reduce stigma and build stronger, more direct patient‑provider relationships.

What types of clients do you work best with?

As a board‑certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP‑BC), I provide compassionate, evidence‑based, and culturally attuned care for individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and substance use disorders. I work extensively with clients from Hispanic/Latino backgrounds, offering holistic and respectful support that honors identity and lived experience, and my Spanish fluency helps eliminate barriers in rapport and access to equitable care. I also bring years of experience working with recently paroled and incarcerated individuals, first responders, and veterans, supporting them through trauma‑related challenges and recovery journeys.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish all clients knew that healing is a gradual, collaborative process and that seeking support is a courageous step toward meaningful change.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In the first session, clients can expect a thorough, patient‑centered evaluation, including discussion of symptoms, history, lifestyle factors, and treatment goals, followed by collaborative planning of therapeutic and medication options when appropriate.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is informed by values of compassion, transparency, equity, and respect for each person’s identity, culture, and lived experience, guiding me to provide safe and affirming care.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy using a holistic, integrative approach that considers each client’s unique history, goals, cultural background, and preferences, and combines psychotherapy and medication management as needed.
