Why did you decide to become a counselor?
The simple answer is that I wanted to help people. However, through my training and experience I realized that it was more complicated than just wanting to help! I found getting to know people and help them discover their own strength was the most rewarding career I could have ever imagined!
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients that are open and truly want to discover ways to challenge their current struggles in different ways. Clients that want to be supported and challenged.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Clients that allow themselves to truly connect with me and through understanding and compassion are ready to make changes.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish clients knew that the compassion they show others can be turned inward and they are loveable just because. They are stronger than they think!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I liked the flexibility and the ability to have a hybrid model of practice with a local office.
What inspires you?
My faith. I am constantly moved by the goodness of humanity and how important our connections are to our own health.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The opportunity to tell your story. What lead you to making this appointment? What do you hope to achieve by coming to counseling? In the first several sessions my goal is to be sure we are on the same page and have established trust for a solid working relationship.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
A realistic perspective on what we can work on. For example, when a person comes in to talk about someone else I continue to redirect to a focus on self. You can only work on one person in counseling and that is you!
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Counseling is like a class on self exploration and the more you invest the more you will get out of it. You don't have to know exactly what you need to work on, but you have to be open to challenge yourself to discover different ways to cope and connect.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love sports! When I was younger I loved to play all kinds of sports...now I love to watch! I continue to exercise, but focus more on stretching and balance. I love hanging out and traveling with my family and friends. I love to laugh and am sure not to take myself too seriously!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am very passionate and care deeply in whatever I am doing. I love my family and the joy I experience with them continues to amaze me.
