Why did you decide to become a counselor?
Through the years of exploring many fields of interest I became involved in working with children, tweeners, and then teenagers. I found it to be very needed in the most critical times in their life. The work was rewarding for those I had helped in life. I found inspiration from several mentors and leaders in the community.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Coming to counseling can be one of the hardest thing a person can do. I commend those that are willing to work towards a better life. I can work with anyone who has the need for counseling. I have had great success in working with couples, adults, children with behavioral issues, adjustment issues, and anger problems.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I have found that clients who have numerous issues can be challenging. It is exciting to help them work through their issues.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That there is always an answer, it just might not be the one they were hoping for.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I was sold on the amount of support and organization that Thriveworks presented.
What inspires you?
I believe that we all have our gifts, I hope to help others find theirs. I have my God who inspires me always.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Freedom from not having to do it alone, having someone to just listen without trying to fix them.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Making a connection is what the first session is about. There is the need to complete a good assessment to determine symptoms and formulate a good treatment plan.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
That I am open-minded but I never take sides.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
It's endless. I spend quality time with my the person in my life, the dog., the cats. Going to different restaurants in San Antonio is always exciting. I play guitar and I'm constantly working on a song. I love to restore classic cars and trucks.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My belief that we are all here for a reason.
