About Jason
I am a nationally board-certified, licensed professional counselor. I've worked in residential settings with adults with severe diagnoses and opened and ran a crisis/diversion program for those struggling with mental health, substance abuse, and housing needs. Most recently, I've been a tenured professor of counseling at a community college. I've embraced working with diverse individuals—LGBTQIA+ clients, racial and ethnic minorities, and older adults—and have supervised student affinity groups, founded a diversity scholarship, and provided clinical supervision to several individuals, all of whom obtained their clinical license.
I believe the skills you need are inside you, and I work with you to identify those strengths and explore what has been in the way. I have a strong connection to identity development, transitions, and overcoming loss—of self and of loved ones. I've regularly worked with severe depression and anxiety, guiding individuals through their symptoms and day-to-day.
You matter and your experience matters. While no one may fully understand your unique experiences, feelings, and thoughts, having a space to connect with someone who really wants you to live your best life is vital. If you're ready to take that first courageous step and find a good fit for your journey, I believe you can do this.

"As a queer-identified man that has personal experience with trauma, grief and loss, I believe that I have an authentic understanding of how difficult navigating life can be, while also understanding how powerful learning to build upon our own resilience and skills can empower us to be better versions of ourselves. Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
My journey to become a counselor started a long time ago when I was young and felt a pull to want to help others. I have always wanted to know about people and how I could help them feel better about themselves. That instinct I felt has only grown with time, leading me to this calling. I have also benefited from my own therapy where I have learned so much of myself and how to develop my own strengths. I very much hope that others can feel and experience that growth within themselves as well.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work well with clients who are motivated to grow, who are open to feedback and who are appreciative when challenged in a supportive and caring manner.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
It is a journey and process that requires commitment and vulnerability but can have such powerful outcomes. Mental Health and healing is an ongoing, lifelong journey but does not need to be something that debilitates and hinders you forever.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
The first step in therapy is learning about each other and making sure that it is a good fit for you. I recognize that in order for there to be trust and to allow for individuals to share and be vulnerable, let's make sure that my style, personality, and approach match our expectations.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I have my own personal experiences with trauma and grief and loss. I also have personal experience with feelings of low self-worth and feeling othered based on who I was. I draw upon these experiences as I make it a priority to create a safe space for everyone to feel like they can be authentically themselves which is a key component to forming a good therapeutic relationship.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I believe I must get to know you and bit of your story in order to better understand what type and style of therapy may be best for you. At times it may be necessary for me to pivot the approach that I take based on how we both feel therapy is going and if progress is being made towards reaching your goals. I take the time to selfreflect on how I may need to adjust.
