About Marie

Hello, my name is Marie Van Patten and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am deeply empathetic and I am here to guide you on your path towards healing. The bravest thing you will ever do is ask for help, because it shows you refuse to give up. I am trained, licensed, and ready to help you with my expertise. I specialize in trauma and working with clients with PTSD, but I have worked with every type of client you can imagine. I see you. I know you're in pain. I can help you take control of your emotions and your life. I use evidence-based practice to help you figure out what's getting in the way of your "life worth living."

I use trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy/letter writing, and many other modalities to help you release the trauma of your past. I have worked with all ages and spent 10+ years as a professional, researcher, and licensed professional counselor.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I have wanted to be a counselor/Psychologist since I was 10 years old.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are ready to deal with their trauma.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish all clients to know they have the power to heal themselves from within and counselors act as guides to empower and educate you in this process.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Expect to create 2-3 short attainable short-term goals.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

I value making sure my clients are cared for and are a major priority. It is my personal value to give 110% as a provider and empower clients to use coping skills that they can use their entire lives.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I let the client's take charge and create their goals.
