Maureen Heisterkamp is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with 2 years of experience in the mental health field. She has worked with teens and adults to address trauma, depression, and anxiety, along with communication skills and life adjustments. A graduate of Cleveland State University, her Bachelor of Arts was obtained in Psychology, with an added Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Her education, coupled with her professional experience, helps provide the support and empathy her clients seek. She utilizes multiple treatment approaches, including but not limited to: mindfulness, client-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and Christian counseling.
Maureen's focus on building a therapeutic relationship with clients is key to helping them heal, growing their self-confidence in the process. Get to know Maureen
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I’ve thought about becoming a counselor over the course of several years. It began with seeking therapy myself, and throughout that experience, I realized that I love hearing people talk about the going ons in their lives. In particular, I enjoy providing tools to help them improve and succeed with whatever problems they are experiencing. Offering empathy and reassurance to others is what gives me joy.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
The last thing we would ever do is judge you. Whatever occurred in your life or in your past, our sole purpose is about helping you heal and grow!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I'm invested in the population that Thriveworks serves. I am also excited to continue working with motivated clients.
What inspires you?
When clients no longer need me. Watching them become strong and recognize their talents brings me so much delight. Seeing how far they’ve come is a joyful sight to behold.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
An explanation of how I work in regard to building a relationship with them. In particular, they can expect discussions on working together to establish a goal for a treatment plan. I will also explore what brought them in to make the healing process more productive.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love hiking, as well as watching sunsets at the beach. Reading psychological thrillers and putting puzzles together are also joyous hobbies of mine.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I care very deeply about others. In this life, there’s so much to be grateful for, and I desire that everyone can see that. Their joy is my joy, and I hope to offer them the guidance to get to that point.
