About Christian
Christian Castano is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LPC, LCADC) with over 10 years of experience working in the substance abuse and mental health fields respectively. Chris is passionate about helping adult clients who are looking to address the unique challenges they face in an attempt to live more fulfilling lives. I specialize in the treatment of addiction, mood disorders, thought disorders, as well as couples counseling.
Chris obtained his Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling specializing in Marriage and Family from Monmouth University. He maintains an existential approach in therapy to assist clients in finding their search for meaning in their lives. His background stems from a behavioral health setting while also working within a substance abuse setting with co-occurring disorders. Our specific circumstances in life are unique and challenging in their own right.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I love the art of communication as well as what you can learn from someone through active listening.

Individuals who are looking for ways to enhance their self-worth, self-esteem for their own self-development.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with every and all types of clients. I get excitement from working with clients who are looking to reinvent themselves or improve the ways in which they approach their daily lives.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Although life is filled with ups and downs we are nothing without a lifeline. You are always one decision away from a completely different life.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Providing supervision to up-and-coming professionals has been an area of focus. With the increased need for well-trained clinicians, I feel it is my duty to assist in their development.
What inspires you?
Life and the unpredictability of it inspires me. No day is the same as the other!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Identification of their needs and interest in their overall betterment.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Identify areas of importance for them to find comfort with in treatment.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I will give my undivided attention to you throughout our sessions and maintain a supportive therapeutic approach.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Hike, songwriting, travel.
