About Provider

About Aura

Aura Labarre is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with 6 years of experience in mental health. Aura works with those processing recent and generational trauma, betrayal trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, chronic health concerns, identity journeys, attachment issues, those seeking new ways of addressing cyclical relationship problems, behavioral addictions, and other manifestations of human struggles. Aura graduated from North Carolina Central University, summa cum laude, in 2017. She was a School Counselor for four years and a family-centered treatment (FCT) therapist for over a year.

Aura's compassionate counseling approach walks the path as a student of anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, culturally inclusive, body, age, and diverse ability-honoring approaches. Now, as a therapist working with individuals, she utilizes eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and offers a somatic approach to support post-traumatic growth.

Aura's role, as your collaborator in healing, will be to hold a strong therapeutic space for you with authenticity, compassion, and diligence. She looks forward to hearing from you!

Get to know Aura

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

From my first career in ecology and agriculture, to School Counseling and Family Centered Treatment, I counsel with a systems-thinking approach through a trauma-informed lens. The inclusive connectivity of counseling as a conduit towards growth has always fascinated me. This growth starts with you. When you are ready to walk the processing path of mental health with compassionate and knowledgeable support, feel free to reach out.

What types of clients do you work with best?

People who want to fully engage in their own healing process.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

People who are curious about themselves.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

They are worthy of being listened to.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

The connectivity that Thriveworks offers between therapy and the community.

What inspires you?

I am inspired when I see genuine regrowth and new-meaning making after trauma and loss.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Time to build an understanding of their needs and to develop emotional security within our counseling relationship.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

There will be portions of the first session dedicated to history taking, understanding their therapeutic goals, and explaining the EMDR process.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

I am here to collaborate with you on this healing process and therefore always open to questions.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I am most content when walking in the woods with friends and family, but I also relish time in my tangle of a garden and curling up with a book or movie at the end of a well lived day.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I'm authentically myself.
