Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have a passion for helping people and a gift for listening. I became a counselor so I can help people feel good about themselves and engage in something I am passionate about.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with young adult women who are usually suffering from depression, anxiety, or trauma.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Clients who are ready for change. Clients who are in the "action stage of change" are exciting to work with because they are ready to really self reflect and hold themselves accountable.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That change does not happen overnight nor does it happen without work. to add, celebrating the baby steps helps you stay motivated.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
For the structure and networking opportunities with other counselors.
What inspires you?
People who move from tragedy to triumph.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A good listening session. I like to open up the session with hearing peoples' stories and their motivators for change.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Rapport, understanding, and logistics e.g. frequency of visits, co-pays, etc.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
The only thing I require is that people walk in with their truth in sessions.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I workout, listen to music, decorate, and sing.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Caring.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
I worked with a client who was very resistant to therapy and did not think he needed therapy. Over the next 14 months, he gradually begin to see the benefit of therapy and we built a great rapport with each other. Even though it was a process, he work towards his goals, opened up about some of his issues, employed the coping strategies and committed to the process.
