Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I have always enjoyed helping people.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with people who are motivated for change.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with people who have identified that something isn't quite right in their lives and are looking to either figure out what it is, or if they know what it is, start to work on it.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all client's knew that things can get better. As therapists we don't have a magic wand to instantly make changes, but through a true working partnership they can make extraordinary changes that they feel proud of. Also that its O.k. to cry in therapy! Too often people apologize for that and I say, Don't apologize! If you can't cry in a therapists office where can you cry?
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I choose to practice at Thriveworks because its clear they care about both the therapists and the clients.
What inspires you?
When I see people continue to move forward even in extremely difficult circumstances.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In their first session with me clients can expect to feel safe, heard, and respected. We will review the process and what they can expect, and they will know that we will move at the pace in therapy that is most comfortable for them. We will focus on understanding what is bringing them to therapy, the history of those concerns/issues, and other general information to help me understand more about them. Also their goal for treatment.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session I want to have a good understanding of why they have come to therapy, what they want to address, and a little about who they are and their lives.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Clients should know that I am a kind, honest, open-minded, and compassionate person.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my time off I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me is my commitment to doing things right.
