Get to know Carri
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I've always been "the helper" with my family, friends, coworkers. Counseling comes naturally to me.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I consider myself open to new challenges and have a hard time saying "no" to someone in need.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I prefer clients that are motivated to change. Reflection, habits, and changes are hard. I'm here to support you through the process.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
To borrow from R.E.M., "Everybody hurts". But there are healthier, less destructive ways to process those difficult emotions.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks has been such a positive and supportive company to help me venture into the world of tele-health.
What inspires you?
Seeing the "a-ha" moment when my clients "get it" and can connect their body-mind experiences.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
An openness to understanding without judgement.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Feeling comfortable enough to want to continue.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I like to challenge current thinking patterns and I expect you to do the work. I will help you with understanding but I will also encourage you try new ways.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love rustic camping and kayaking down the river. I also enjoy music festivals and other cultural events. Family gatherings always include games and special food.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I'm a really good cook!
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
When my client was able to re-frame her anxiety by asking herself, "Now, what would Carri say?" and was able to engage in a calming process without having to pick up the phone.
