About Monique Nickie
Monique "Nickie" Murray is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LPC), a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (RC-C) and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC-C). She has 11 years of experience helping others grow as they explore and work through substance use, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, and more.
Nickie completed her Master's degree in Counseling Rehabilitation at the University of Southern Maine. Nickie worked for a disability company for 22 years which included work as a Vocational Consultant. She utilizes treatment approaches that include motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness. This work history provides Nickie with a unique outlook and approach when it comes to working with individuals as they work toward maintaining and achieving 'wholeness'.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor because I enjoy helping others and I find joy in watching others grow and achieve their goals.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with individuals who struggle with relationship issues, finding their direction in life or who have depression and anxiety.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with individuals who appreciate a straightforward approach and are able to work well with feedback and suggestions.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
The one thing I wish every client knew is, you have what it takes to get through this!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I am choosing to practice with Thriveworks because we appear to have the same goals in helping others achieve the healing they are seeking.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by music and dance.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In a first session with me, clients can expect to meet me and learn about my treatment style while we are completing paperwork and I am learning a bit about them.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In my first session with an individual it is my goal to accomplish required paperwork and really understand the person in front of me and what they are searching for.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am a down to earth, straightforward person. I am the same person in a counseling session as I am outside of the office.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
During my time off, I enjoy hanging out with my grandkids, taking dance classes and exercising.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me is the love I have for the people in my inner circle.
