She is a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister to a large complex family and understands the importance of flexibility, forgiveness, and humor in dealing with relationships. She uses an eclectic approach to therapy but firmly believes that self growth and healing occurs when a person pays attention to their inner dialog and the impact it has on their behavior and feelings. Tammy, believes that creating a safe place for the hardest of thoughts and feelings to be explored can bring relief.

Get to know Tammy

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

Tammy's middle child syndrome is what lead her to become a social work counselor. Nine sisters, one bathroom, with lots of family dynamics. Someone had to fight for equality.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Tammy works best with clients that want something different for themselves and their families and are willing to look inward to start the change.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I have a fondness for working with struggling parents.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish all clients knew that a good counselor will encourage you and instill hope.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I choose to practice at Thriveworks because Thriveworks is dedicated to giving clients a choice in their counselor and the right to decide whether remote or in office therapy will work best for them.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the concepts of true forgiveness and personal sacrifice.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

The beginning of a first session must include important information about your rights as the client and assuring you understand the role and limitations of a therapist employed by Thriveworks. The majority of the session will be spent with me asking questions and listening closely so I can focus on your concerns and needs.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

Within the first session, I hope to gain a general understanding of your concerns. My goal will be to determine if I have the acquired skills to assist you and to come up with a plan. If for some reason you we do not make a good fit, my goal will be to get you connected to someone with the skills who can help.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

For many people, the first session is awkward. You may be nervous but please know that my goal will be to make you as comfortable as possible. It is the first step.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

When I am not doting on my grandchildren, I am an avid reader and enjoy all things with epoxy and glitter.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

No matter what talents, achievements or possessions I own, they are nothing if I am not kind.
