About Linda

Dr. Linda Simmons is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) with over 30 years of experience in the mental health field. She is passionate about helping adults achieve healing and greater life fulfillment. Dr. Simmons specializes in depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, pain management, relationship issues, faith issues, and major life transitions.

Dr. Simmons earned her Master's and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University. She also has a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Truman University. Dr. Simmons has continued her training and received her certification in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). She sees psychotherapy as a collaborative process with her clients, providing education and expert guidance, and encouraging clients to reach their goals. Psychotherapy is not a one-size-fits-all process and therapeutic approaches will be individualized to meet the client's needs.

None of us escapes the challenges life brings. As a wife, mother, and grandmother, Dr. Simmons has seen many of these challenges herself. Having someone with expert skills, empathy, compassion, and a strong desire to help walk with you in your journey will allow you a safe place to learn coping skills, gain a new perspective, and heal. If you are struggling, please call or go online to schedule an appointment with Dr. Simmons today.

Get to know Linda

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I have always had the desire to help people have a better life physically, emotionally, and spiritually. At 17 years old I began nursing school. After working in a number of different areas, I got a job in a psychiatric hospital and it seemed to click! That was my niche and I then went on to complete my doctoral training in clinical psychology.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Therapy is hard work, there's no denying that. I enjoy working with adults who are motivated to heal and move forward to make positive life changes. Therapy is also a partnership, so I enjoy working with clients as a team.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I have seen the struggles of people who have survived difficult and sometimes unfathomable situations over the years. I am drawn to working with those who have been wounded and are so much in need of someone to walk with them in their pain and healing.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I would wish that all clients recognize that there is hope for their future, regardless of what they've been through in their past. We do not have to be defined by our past, we only need to learn and grow from it.

What inspires you?

I have to say, in terms of work, there is nothing better than seeing the smiles on client faces when they've had a breakthrough, they've felt their inner strength grow, and they can see light at the end of their tunnel. Personally, I have 7 grandchildren that are an absolute delight and I can't get enough of them. My husband is incredibly supportive of me and what I do and I'm so thankful. First and finally, my faith sustains me in all of it.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In a first session, a client can expect a warm and open welcome. My goal is to put them at ease and to help them feel that their time with me is a safe space. It isn't always easy to meet with a stranger to talk about your problems, your vulnerabilities, and your fears. It takes time to build trust, but it begins in session one.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want to listen to their concerns and what they're hoping to gain from psychotherapy. I also want to know what they've already tried to manage their problems. Out of their efforts, what worked and what didn't. Finally, I would like to know what the client wants/expects from me as their therapist.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I have great respect for my clients. Their time is as valuable as mine. I will start on time and end on time. They will have my full attention and my best efforts in helping them with their needs.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I enjoy traveling, spending time watching movies with my husband, walking, and playing with our 4 dogs. And most of all, I'm an avid reader. I would probably read 24 hours a day if possible.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I take my Christian faith very seriously. God has sustained me in every up and down of my life and continues to do so. Out of that faith is my desire to be used for the good of others.
