Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor because I believe it is my calling to help others. As a child growing up there wasn't much mental health help in my culture. In my community there are many challenges that we face and there is not enough help. With this awareness as a young adult, I knew that I could make a difference through my community by being the help that my community will need. I decided to become a Clinician to help individuals get the help they need to improve their lives. The more I practiced, the more passionate I became and helping others take care of their mental health reassures me that this is the help that I and my community was missing growing up.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Every client is different. I focus on how can I best add value to your life right now--which is going to look different for everyone.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
My focus is to get you to where you need to be, to sustain the life you want. Collaboration is key and "you" are your greatest strength!
What inspires you?
Life inspires me! The growth of this field! Being able to help and see my clients show up for theirselves!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Definitely ease. Coming to therapy is a nerve wracking experience. Therefore I aim to make the first session a comfortable and easy one--to help set the tone for further work.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
To build rapport and create the tone for their therapeutic work to come.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am here to support you throughout this journey, no matter how that may look like!
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy cooking, trying different cuisines, hiking, swimming, eating, traveling, and meditating. I also enjoy short story writing, exercising, and a good nap--here and there.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am naturally nurturing and caring.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
Being able to help a client develop awareness and create space for continuing insight to where the client is able to continue to increase self awareness even out of session.
