Why did you decide to become a counselor?
Throughout my life I have always enjoyed helping others by giving them a safe space to share their thoughts and provide them the necessary resources. In college when I took a psychology class I truly found what career path would be the best for me to do just that. I hope to continue to empower my clients and provide them with a nonjudgmental space for them to express themselves.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Throughout my career as a counselor I have worked with adults with mental health issues including depression, anxiety, Borderline Personality disorder as well as substance use concerns. My approach with clients is to be non-judgmental as well as personable.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with clients who are willing to be vulnerable to overcome such challenges they have experienced to become the best version of themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that they all have a voice that is meant to be heard and to know that being vulnerable is a strength.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to become a counselor at Thriveworks to further my experience as well as work with clients like you who are wanting to get help to be the best version of themselves! I love that Thriveworks provides an array of services that are easily accessible to everyone.
What inspires you?
Many things in life inspire me such as overcoming new challenges, learning new things as well as the strength I have witnessed from my mom but when it comes to my career I am inspired when clients come to session as their most authentic self and truly put in the work to become the best version of themselves. I tend to tell my clients that therapy may not always be easy but it is always worth it!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In the first session with me I would like to introduce myself to tell you a little bit about me and my background and hear about your life as well. I love to learn about why you want to link with therapy as well as learn things that you enjoy doing and who/what inspires you or brings you joy. In our first session I will also work with you to create a treatment plan where we will discuss what your goals are for therapy.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In your first therapy session with you I would like to work on building rapport with you as well as create your treatment plan where we will discuss what your goals are for therapy. I also ask my clients what has worked or didn't work with them in the past if they have been in therapy and their preferred learning style since sometimes I will give my client's homework/worksheets to complete or handouts that are applicable to their treatment if they prefer that.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I would like clients to know that I am available to hear their story and will do my best to provide a safe nonjudgmental space for them to share their vulnerabilities to overcome the challenges that they are experiencing.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my free time I love to spend time with my family including my dog, Nyla. I also enjoy spending time at the pool or beach in the summertime since I am originally from Florida.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
People tell me constantly in my personal and professional life that I smile a lot. I enjoy smiling because it can help to brighten someone's day and that's my hope in being a social worker - to brighten my client's day since sometimes my face and smile might be the only ones that they see. One of my favorite quotes is "Use your smile to change the world, don't let the world change your smile."
