Get to know Grace

Why did you decide to become a psychiatric provider?

I have worked with patients with psychiatric health issues for the past 15 years. Working with this population made me increasingly interested and committed to caring for them and their needs. Pursuing and completing a post-master's certificate in psychiatric NP allowed me to learn more about the disease process, such as depression and anxiety, and their treatment options to provide patient and family-centered care.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I am excited to work with all clients. I bring two decades of experience working with patients. I have been mentored and trained to work with patients across the continuum of care.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Again, I am excited to work with all clients. Some challenges we encounter daily can change our outlook, cause stress, and bring difficulties, sadness, panic, depression, anxiety, and emotional shock. These situations can leave patients confused and overwhelmed. My priority is helping patients attain optimal functioning and working with them through these challenging times.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

The benefit of medication compliance. Psychotropic meds are trials; what works for one may not work for another, but we can have a treatment plan tailored to their needs.

What inspires you?

Seeing the clients return to their optimal level of function is what fuels my passion to work and support patients working through their mental health concerns.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients should expect a warm greeting, a friendly face, and come with an open mind. I'm here to work with you. I will, of course, have many questions about you to get to know you better. But we will move and work at a pace that works for you. I will introduce myself and talk with you about things they can expect from me, such as different coping strategies and medication options we can start taking to see what works best for my patients.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I am passionate about supporting my patients through the journey of healing. I am a good listener and like to understand my patient's perspectives and work through a plan to support their journey to wellness and optimal functioning. I am also easy to work with, I want my patients to know they can laugh, and they can feel comfortable to open up with me without judgment.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I like to listen to some afro beats and dance. Hanging out with friends for a cup of coffee is refreshing. And I spend my best days involve reading books and singing songs with my grandchildren.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My sense of humor, I love to laugh, I love comedy and seeing people smile.

Does Grace prescribe medications effective for the treatment of ADHD?

Yes - when clinically appropriate, Grace may prescribe both non-stimulant (all ages) and stimulant (adults only) medication for the treatment of ADHD.
