About Denise

I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and hold a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) with over 15 years of psychiatric nursing experience across inpatient, outpatient, and crisis management settings. My practice is rooted in providing compassionate, evidence-based, and holistic psychiatric care tailored to each individual's unique journey. I work with adults and teens navigating a wide range of mental health challenges.

My clinical style is grounded in collaboration, empathy, and communication. I believe healing happens when care addresses the whole person, not just symptoms. While my primary focus is medication management, I strongly advocate for comprehensive treatment. I partner with therapists and providers to ensure your care aligns seamlessly.

Taking the first step toward mental health support is a courageous decision, and you don't have to navigate it alone. You deserve a supportive provider who truly listens and meets you with empathy, clarity, and respect. I welcome you to reach out and schedule your initial consultation.

Get to know Denise

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

Before specializing in psychiatry, I spent over 15 years on the medical side of nursing. My pivot to mental health was deeply shaped by Hurricane Katrina. As the region worked to rebuild I accepted my first job as a psychiatric nurse in Louisiana. Witnessing firsthand the immense emotional toll and ongoing challenges trauma from the what the storm left behind piqued my interest in psychiatry and inspired my lifelong commitment to mental healthcare.

What types of clients do you work best with?

Because of my extensive background spanning medical nursing, inpatient, outpatient psychiatry and crisis settings, I work well with a wide variety of clients. I am equally comfortable helping a child or adolescent navigate school and home challenges with ADHD as I am helping an adult manage complex, everyday mental health needs.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish that every client knew that reaching out for help is not a reflection of failure it is an act of strength. The outdated stigma around mental healthcare is continuous giving way to understanding, and you don't have to wait until things feel overwhelming to prioritize your peace, emotional balance, and healing.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Your initial visit is a cmprehensive evaluation designed to look at the whole picture. Well cover your complete medical history, review any medication your are currently taking or have tried in the past, and talk through how those experiences felt for you. My focus is on understanding all the factors impacting your well being from physical health and life style to emotional stress so we can build a thoughtful, grounded treatment strategy together.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is grounded in compassion, integrity, and respect for each individuals journey. I have seen how transformative it is when someone feels truly heard. I value meeting clients exactly where they are combining strong medical expertise with open communication to help individuals and families regain balance and confidence.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

Because psychiatric care is never one size fits all, I tailor treatment by looking closely at the full picture of each persons health. Tailoring medication management means taking into account your complete medical background, genetic factors, lifestyle , past medication responses, and personal preferences. Rath than using a blanket approach, I select and adjust treatments based on how your body and daily life respond, ensuring we find the safest, most effective balance four you.
