I recently left an intensive outpatient program, and lost my insurance soon after. Since then, I haven’t been able to find a way to renew my prescriptions without it costing well over what I can afford. Everywhere I’ve looked around Columbus, Ohio is either $100+ a session, or has a waitlist of 3-6 months. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do so I can continue taking the medications that saved my life?
Hi there, thank you for reaching out. You’re right, medication out of pocket can be incredibly expensive. It may be worthwhile to try community-based mental health care while having this lapse of insurance coverage.
There are a number of community mental health clinics that often have sliding-scale or low-cost options. In the interim, it could also be worthwhile speaking with your local county assistance office (CAO) to apply for medical assistance to help with: 1. finding care and 2. having low-cost options for medication.
