I’ve been a smoker for about five years, and I finally decided to stop a few days ago. But, I have cravings for a cigarette all the time. I try to fight the urge by having a piece of candy or going for a walk. Even when I do this, I continue to have the cravings, and it’s really hard to fight. Can you tell me how many days it’ll take me until I finally stop having these strong urges for a cigarette?
There’s a popular book out that says it takes 21 days to break and make a new habit. A peer-reviewed study of 96 participants (published in The European Journal of Social Psychology) found that it took on average 66 days to form a habit, such as eating a healthy lunch or running 15 minutes a day.
