Spring Hill Couples Counseling – Healthy Relationship Therapy

Almost every couple in the history of the world has gone through rough spots. Most couples understand that it’s simply a part of being in a long-term relationship. But how do you know when a relationship is worth working on and when it’s time to call it quits? The answer is to do the work. Follow these steps and see what the outcome is. You can also contact a Thriveworks Atlantis couples counselor to help you uncover what’s really going on in your relationship.

Communication should be your top priority

When trying to repair a relationship, there is nothing more important than open and honest communication. Take the time to really talk to your partner – and listen to what they have to say in return.

Do more than talk – take action

Communicating is hard but if you want it to be effective you must also follow it with action. It’s not enough to tell your partner you’re sorry. It’s not enough to claim to want to change. You must also make reasonable steps to actually make real changes.

Don’t expect results the first day

There is no magic fix. You won’t wake up tomorrow feeling 100% good about your relationship. However, with daily changes, communication, and work, it may improve. Set reasonable expectations and understand that you’re in this for the long-haul.

Make changes that will last

When you’re working on changes in your relationship remember that you’re not just trying to change how you feel today. Once things get better, resist the urge to simply go back to old habits. You should be making long-lasting changes.

Find the silver lining

No matter how frustrated you might feel, no matter how hopeless it may seem, there are things about your relationship that you appreciate. If that weren’t the case then you wouldn’t be working on your relationship. Make sure you remember the positives and reveal in the good things about your relationship.

Saving a relationship isn’t simple but it can be done. At Thriveworks Atlantis Counseling and Coaching we can help you find the right way to save your relationship.
