Addiction is a disease. It is a chronic, progressive, fatal disease. It is no less dangerous than cancer, leukemia or many other diseases. If left untreated the prognosis may be death. Many in recovery from addiction confess that they were on the road to incarceration, ill health and likely dying from the disease of addiction. Whether their substance of choice was alcohol, opiate, or cocaine, the outcome is likely the same.

The good news is there is treatment for the disease of addiction. This includes substances such as alcohol, cocaine, opiates and methamphetamines. At Thriveworks Bethlehem, we are able to provide counseling services to define the needed treatment to support sobriety and recovery from substances. We are able to provide appropriate level of care recommendations once an assessment is completed. These may include;

Often someone who has fallen prey to addiction does so because of a co-occurring mental or behavioral complication. Our counselors are skilled in looking beyond the surface of the addiction and into understand the other issues that may be complicating life for the client. This may include appropriate treatment by use of other medications.

“If in doubt, ask yourself one simple question: given the harm you’re doing to yourself and others, are you willing to stop? If not, you’re addicted. And if you’re unable to renounce the behavior or to keep your pledge when you do, you’re addicted.”
